Mountain hut mission

February 14, 2012

Snowtour by: Miikka Hast

Our plan was to spend the next days up on the mountain in Rudy’s hut. It’s an old shepard’s rest house on 1600m elevation. We started hiking in blue skies after couple of lifts, taxi, train and a car. Weather was beautiful but freezing at times. We found a mountain local who was definitely even more frozen than we were! We found a big surprise sticking out of the snow in the middle of our run. Check the video!

That was not the only surprise of that day. When we were riding down to the hut we ran into a cloud or thick fog. It was whiteout to the max. Could not see nor feel if you were moving or not. Riding felt retarded and sketchy but Rudy managed to find the route to the hut straight.

After finding the hut we had to find the chimney too to get the heat going in the frozen hut. After a little searching and working we got the heat going and after that it was very cosy night in the middle of the mountains. It felt far from the civilization and hurry. Place for peace of mind. Rudy cooked a big dinner and we fell a sleep to the silence of mountains.
