What to keep in mind when shopping for men's ski trousers
Choosing the right ski trousers can be tricky. You have to take into account things like waterproofing, breathability, fit, and length. To make things easier for you, we've created a special guide called How to choose the right ski or snowboard trousers. This page describes the fastest and easiest way to find your new pair of ski trousers, as well as the technical specifications of our trousers and their advantages.
What to wear under ski trousers
Assuming the temperature is only a few degrees below freezing, there's no need to wear special garments under your ski trousers. For truly freezing temperatures or if you plan to ski at a high altitude, we recommend wearing thermal pants under your ski trousers. Thermal pants retain heat, wick away moisture, and keep you comfortable while you hit the slopes.
Men's soft shell ski trousers
Soft shell ski trousers have become increasingly popular over the years, especially among women. But men are also starting to wear this style of trousers, and we understand why! The soft shell fabric is made up of three layers for optimum comfort. The inner layer is brushed, making the trousers extremely comfortable. The middle and outer layers are insulated and breathable. This makes soft shell ski trousers comfortable, windproof, and waterproof. The elastic properties of the soft shell fabric provide the perfect amount of stretch. Win-win!
Different colours
Our men's ski trousers are available online in a wide range of colours: from classic black, grey, and blue to bright orange, yellow, and green. The advantage of basic colours is that they're timeless and easy to mix and match. Ski trousers in a solid colour lay the perfect foundation for a more eye-catching ski jacket or accessories. You could also go all-out by mixing bold colours and prints on your jacket and trousers. An eye-catching ski outfit has another advantage: it makes it easier to spot your friends when you hit the slopes in a big group.
Men's ski trousers with suspenders
Suspenders are an integral part of a ski outfit and help to keep your ski trousers from sagging off so you can focus on what counts: skiing! The majority of our men's ski trousers come with removable suspenders, but some don't. No worries: our men's ski collection also includes separate suspenders and belts!
Different fits
Our men's ski trousers come in two easy fits: regular and slim. The main difference between the two is in the 'tightness' of the trousers. Slim-fit trousers are more fitted through the legs than regular trousers, making them slightly less suitable for more adventurous skiers. If you enjoy backcountry skiing or spending the day at a fun park, slim-fit trousers may not be ideal. In this case, regular-fit trousers would be better. For the average skier, however, there's no hard and fast rule for choosing slim-fit over regular-fit or vice versa; most base their decision on style instead of cut.
Different styles
Our men's collection includes three types of ski trousers: trousers with suspenders, trousers without suspenders, and salopettes. The latter may need further explanation. Salopette is a fancy word for ski trousers with a bib and suspenders. This style has two unique features. First, salopettes have integrated suspenders, which means you never have to worry about your trousers sagging off. Second, these 'skiing overalls' have a higher rise at the back compared with standard ski trousers, which helps to keep the snow out if you take a tumble. You can also opt for ergonomic ski trousers, which means the legs have been designed to ensure the most streamlined fit. This creates a sporty look and allows for maximum range of motion.
Choosing the right size
Skiers come in all shapes and sizes and so do our ski trousers. This means you can now shop for men's ski trousers in sizes XS to XXL! In general, you should buy ski trousers in the same size as you would buy regular trousers or jeans. In other words, you don't have to buy a larger size to accommodate thermal pants; we took this into account when designing our ski trousers. If you're not sure which size to choose, use our size chart or contact us by chat or e-mail.
Ski trousers as winter walking trousers
An advantage of new ski trousers is that they double as winter walking trousers as well! These trousers are perfect for chilly winters and for sledding or building a snowman with the kids.
Men's ski trousers SALE
At the end of each winter season, all of our men's ski trousers go on sale. The sale doesn't include items from the new collection, but you can find ski trousers from previous collections for a great price. This is perfect for first-time skiers who don't want to spend a ton of money on a new ski outfit before they know whether the sport is for them. It's also great for experienced skiers looking for an affordable pair of ski trousers!
Add the finishing touch to your ski outfit
You'll need more than a pair of ski trousers if you plan to hit the slopes. Put together your own Protest ski outfit with a matching men's ski jacket, a few mid layers, and some new thermal trousers and thermal tops. Add the finishing touch with matching gloves or mittens, a beanie, suspenders, and warm ski socks.
